Bernadette Gill, Seychelles
I have gained more skills in using Web 2.0 and Social Media tools; in fact, I understand and know how to manage them effectively. Before my participation in the ICfD course (Spring, 2015) I was not even aware of how to utilize online tools. After completing the course I can now recognize and understand the role of Social Media and the way information is created, organized, shared, and accessed. Indeed, social media has really improved my work and daily life. It definitely helps me deal with my daily duties more professionally while sharing the knowledge that I’ve acquired with other colleagues in my workplace.
In fact, after the online course I had the opportunity to share my recently acquired knowledge by helping in a five day, face to face training on Web 2.0 and Social Media Learning Opportunity from 11 – 15 May 2015, held here in Seychelles by the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture in collaboration with CTA. Mr. Nicholas Kimolo from Kenya was the facilitator. Participants were introduced to selected web 2.0 applications including social media and they were taught how to use them hands-on. This learning opportunity forms part of CTA initiatives that support development partners in networking, accessing and dissemination information more effectively. Moreover, in regards to my organization I’m actually working on a proposal where I will be discussing with my management about how we can apply some of 2.0 Web tools in helping staff to better perform their duties plus for the promotion and information to outsiders about the organization.
Let me take this opportunity to thank CTA and UNITAR for this wonderful initiative in providing this course, it was very useful and interesting although the exercises took some time occasionally but at the end I feel satisfied with my own achievements. Therefore, I am very grateful to have given the chance to attend this course, it was well organized. I also thank the facilitators and all participants. I hope to be given the chance to participate in other related course provided by CTA and UNITAR.
Again many thanks,
