Having gone through UNITAR’s e-Learning course “Innovative Collaboration for Development” (ICfD) Spring 2014 session, it was quite an experience. Though the 9 weeks course was tedious and challenging, it turned out to be very rewarding.
I participated in the Web 2.0 and Social Media for Development workshop, held on 19-23 May 2014 at the University of Port Harcourt, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Here, not only did I meet the facilitator, but I also took part in the application of most of the social media tools that I learned about in the ICfD course.
At the workshop I had the assignment of teaching trainees about LinkedIn. In order to do this, I referred back to what I learned in the ICfD course. I was successful in teaching trainees about LinkedIn as a tool for professionals.
I never knew I learnt so much in the ICfD course till I put it into real practice! The feedback I received after teaching the trainees was complementary and rewarding.
This goes to prove that for effective communication, there is need for collaboration and sharing of information. Social media to me is the ANSWER.
I am elated that today I can access tools at a click of the mouse and apply them having read the instructions. I am ever appreciative of the training and support in making us put into practice these tools as well as adapt them for academic purposes.
Thank you CTA, UNITAR and FAO for this opportunity!
